WHICH SPECIALIST OR DOCTOR SHOULD YOU SEE WHEN YOU SUFFER A CONCUSSION?
WHO IS MOST TRAINED AND EXPERIENCED IN UNDERSTANDING COGNITIVE AND BEHAVIORAL PROBLEMS THAT OCCUR AFTER A CONCUSSION?
The specialized training that Neuropsychologists receive in brain-behavior relationships, assessment and psychometrics make them remarkably qualified to conduct a comprehensive assessment of an athlete’s neurocognitive and emotional state following concussion. Neuropsychologists can also help to identify non-neurologic factors, which may be contributing to an unusually protracted recovery and provide psychotherapy during recovery (Broshek, De Marco, & Freeman, 2015; Echemendia et al., 2012; Ott & Herceg, 2017).
Dr. Kalinian has a special interest and training in assessment of concussion. She was recently invited to speak at the International Conference of Neuroscience in Prague, Czech Republic, where she spoke about THE DIAGNOSIS & TREATMENT OF SPORT-RELATED CONCUSSIONS: AN EVIDENCE BASED APPROACH. She was one of three experts from the United States to educate scientists from all over the world, including India, Russia, China, France, etc. She is very passionate about helping atheltes and others who have suffered a concussion.
“Dr. Kalinian is very professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely cares about her patients. She has been extremely helpful in helping me recover from a severe concussion. Her detailed tests helped determine the best recovery plan to ensure a full recovery, and to avoid further injury as I began to ramp back up at work. I highly recommend Dr. Kalinian to anyone seeking help for their brain. She is an outstanding Doctor.” – DG
